Gloria Estefan: Announces final tour
Seven-time Grammy winner Gloria Estefan said on Monday that the upcoming tour of Latin American will be her last.
Gloria Estefan, the most successful crossover performer, said, "It is an end to something that began many years ago, in 1975, and it is a dream to be able to do it in Latin America".
After a career spanning more than two decades and 90 million albums sold, Estefan said that she would take her greatest hits tour to South America for the first time.
The tour will begin on April 9 in Uruguay and go on to Chile on the 14th, Argentina on the 18th, Peru on the 21st and Ecuador on April 23. Dates my also be added in the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and other Central American countries, she said.
Estefan said, "These will be the last concerts I do, after I want to focus on my daughter, who is going to high school and continue working in other areas. We have eight restaurants, three hotels; I am working on a third book and on films".
Gloria Estefan's hit songs "Conga", "1,2,3" and "Rhythm is Gonna Get You" are still played around the world.
Estefan has received a lot of awards in her life. With 24 albums, Estefan has won seven Grammys, two of which were for her latest, Spanish-language, disc "90 Millas". She has also received the Ellis Island Congressional Medal of Honor, which is the highest award that can be given to a naturalized U.S. citizen.
Last year, Estefan was the first woman to receive the Latin Recording Academy's "Person of the Year" award.
