Oasis: Bagged NME Awards
British band Oasis has been selected as best band at NME Awards 2009. But unfortunately, the band couldn't be there to receive their awards.
The NME Awards are an annual music awards show, founded by the music magazine, New Musical Express.
The awards ceremony took place at the Brixton Academy on February 25, 2009.
Blur, the old rivals of Oasis, gave a surprise performance at the ceremony.
Oasis, who were nominated in seven categories, beat off competition from Bloc Party, Radiohead and The Last Shadow Puppets to win the award.
Songwriter and guitarist Noel Gallagher of Oasis also won the prize for best band blog.
Muse won the best live band category for the second time and best album artwork, as well as getting the 'sexiest male' gong thanks to singer Matt Bellamy.
The Killers, Las Vegas band, were named best international band for third time.
US band Kings of Leon picked up the best album prize.
Amy Winehouse was named the worst-dressed female while fellow solo musician Pete Doherty was named best male solo artist.
New York's MGMT won best new band and best track for their single "Time To Pretend".
Elbow were selected for their outstanding contribution to music.
The Cure won the prestigious godlike genius award.
Mark Watson hosted the ceremony.
