Wilson Sisters: To be awarded by music biz
Nancy Wilson and his sister Ann, the principal members of veteran rock group Heart, will receive a lifetime achievement award from a group of songwriters. On Thursday organizers have confirmed the news to the media.
Sources have highlighted this news on Nancy Wilson. According to them, Wilson sisters will be given the Founders Award during the performance at the right group ASCAP's annual pop music awards in Hollywood on 22nd April. The honorees and various guests usually perform at the event, but details have not yet been finalized.
Heart’s fifty eighty old singer Ann Wilson and fifty four Nancy, who is the rhythm guitarist, rose to fame during 1970s with such hits namely "Magic Man", "Crazy On You," and "Barracuda."
"Their success and influence helped pave the way for other female artists, and they continue to build their musical legacy with an artistic energy that remains as strong today as when they first started out over 35 years ago," added ASCAP president and chairman Marilyn Bergman by bringing out a statement.
Past recipients include Billy Joel, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Smokey Robinson, James Taylor, Tom Waits, Stevie Wonder and Neil Young.
Rival performing rights group BMI also commented that earlier this week it would felicitate Philadelphia soul songwriter/producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff with an Icon lifetime achievement award during its annual awards dinner in Beverly Hills on 19th May.
Both ASCAP and BMI collect royalties on behalf of music publishers and songwriters by keeping an eye on radio airplay and also by charging license fees to the owners of venues where live and recorded music is played.
