John Mayer: Talks about Oscars, 'Mayercraft Carrier 2' & Britney Spears
Singer John Mayer, just after his first trip to the Oscars, chatted it up with Ryan Seacrest on his morning radio show and talked everything from "Mayercraft Carrier 2," to Britney Spears , to finally feeling comfortable enough to walk the red carpet with girlfriend Jennifer Aniston .
Mayer, after a year of dating Aniston, decided he was ready to make his first red carpet appearance with Jen on his arm at last weekend's Oscars.
"I basically stepped into the picture frame of Hollywood," John said of Oscar night. "For one night, I put on the most amazing suit and I entered into the picture frame. You have to really be with someone that you know has your back in that situation... and she did, and it was really great."
However, when he's not walking red carpets with Hollywood's elite, John is busy making music.
Mayer is getting ready to embark on his second round of the "Mayercraft Carrier," a four-day, four-night cruise from Los Angeles to Cabo featuring performances by John, O.A.R., Guster and more.
"It's like, you know, for three days you can just let everything go, because you couldn't possibly be private, you couldn't say, 'Uh, no I just want my privacy.'" John explained about the unique concert experience. "You're on a boat with like 2,000 or 2,500 people who like, are so dedicated to you, that they wanted to go on a boat with you!"
John will be kicking off the cruise, before heading off to sea, with "One Splendid Evening", an event to benefit VH1's Save The Music campaign.
"Basically all the bands that get very seasick are just going to be performing on this one night, and then the boat takes off the next day," he explained.
The other seasick performers are set to include Gavin Rossdale, Sara Bareilles and Jordin Sparks, who will sing alongside John as he plays the guitar (and may be sings).
"I may sing a little bit... it's hard for me not to once I get it going," he joked.
Guess, who's that one person John won't likely be singing with in the future? Britney Spears.
"I was just talking the other day about how strange the Britney Spears songwriting approach is," John said. "Because it's all about, 'I'm going out tonight, but nobody look at me.'"
"I've never met her and I'm not coming down on her, but all of the songs are sort of like, 'I'm-getting-all-my-girls-together-we're-gonna-go-out' and 'I've-got-holes-cut-out-for-(bleep)-I-got-flashlights-on-me,'" John sang. "And then it's like, 'Why's-everybody-looking-at-me? Everybody's-looking-at-me'" because oh, did you hear verse two, Britney?"
