Clint Eastwood: Honored with lifetime Palme d'Or
American actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood is the second person to receive an honorary Palme d'Or award.
On Wednesday, the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival honored Clint Eastwood with the award during an intimate news conference and cocktail party at a restaurant.
After receiving the award, Eastwood said, "I'm very, very flattered that you've chosen me for this. French cineastes have always been very supportive of me along the way. When I directed my first movie, French cineastes and critics encouraged me, while in my own country, everyone was much more reticent. France is the first country to approach and appreciate cinema as an art form".
Earlier, during the event's 50th edition in 1997, the organizers have given lifetime achievement Palme d'Or to Ingmar Bergman.
The 78 year old Clint Eastwood is in Paris to promote his latest movie, "Gran Torino", which he directed and in which he stars.
Eastwood will begin filming his next project in South Africa in May. The movie is based on Nelson Mandela and his appearance at the 1995 Rugby World Cup final.
Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman will star in the film.
