Charles Barkley: Gets 5 days in jail for DUI
American retired professional basketball player Charles Barkley will spend 5 days in jail. He was arrested on New Year's Eve.
The former NBA star Charles Barkley pleaded guilty on Monday to two counts of drink driving, according to an American radio station.
Barkley is set to begin a five-day jail sentence on March 21.
The 45 year old Barkley was sentenced to 10 days in jail, but only will have to serve five if he completes an alcohol awareness programme.
In addition, he was also fined 2,000 dollars.
Charles Barkley was pulled over by police after he left a Scottsdale nightclub on New Year's Eve and arrested when he failed a sobriety test.
Barkley, who played in the NBA from 1984-2000, had a blood-alcohol level of .149 percent, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 percent in Arizona.
He competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic games and won two gold medals as a member of the United States' Dream Team. In 2006, Barkley was voted into the American Basketball Hall of Fame.
