Heath Ledger: Wins best supporting actor Oscar
Australian actor Heath Ledger, who died last year, won a rare posthumous Oscar on Sunday as best supporting actor for his performance as the Joker in Batman blockbuster "The Dark Knight".
Heath Ledger's mother Sally Bell, father Kim Ledger and sister Kate Ledger received the award.
Mr. Kim Ledger thanked the Academy and British filmmaker Nolan for allowing his son the creative licence to develop and explore this crazy joker character.
Mr Ledger said, "This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath's quiet determination to be truly accepted by you all here, his peers, within an industry he so loved".
Heath Ledger's sister, Kate, dedicated the golden statuette to his young daughter with actress Michelle Williams. She said, "we proudly accept this award on behalf of your beautiful Matilda".
Ledger's mother, Sally Bell, said that it is time to celebrate her son's achievement.
Heath Ledger has already won a string of major awards this year for his superb portrayal of Batman's arch-enemy, helping The Dark Knight become the second-highest grossing film in US history.
