 Kate Winslet: Wins best actress Oscar
This is the first time, British actress and singer Kate Winslet won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in "The Reader" on Sunday. She has performed the role of a German woman with a secret Nazi past in the romantic drama "The Reader".
Earlier, Kate Winslet has won awards from the Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA, a Grammy Award as well as an Emmy.
The 33 year old "Titanic" star was nominated five times for Oscar in the past 13 years but had always returned home empty-handed.
After receiving the award, Kate Winslet said, "To the academy thank you so much. My God".
Kate Winslet first became internationally famous as the co-star of the 1997 blockbuster "Titanic".
Winslet got married to Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. They have two young children.
