Michael Phelps: "Messed up" with pot, says Olympic teammate
Swimmer Ryan Lochte opens up to Usmagazine about his Olympic teammate, four days after a South Carolina sheriff confirmed that Michael Phelps wouldn't be charged after caught on campera smoking pot.
"He's a good friend of mine, and he's a good teammate," Lochte told Us at the Tommy Hilfiger fashion show in NYC Thursday. "Everyone on the U.S. Olympic team, we're all going to support him no matter what."
Ryan added: "Yeah, he messed up, but hopefully he'll learn from it. Hopefully everyone will learn from it."
Michael Phelps has apologized for his "regrettable" behavior in the photo -- taken during a November house party while Phelps was visiting the University of South Carolina. The picture was later published in Britain's News of the World.
Phelps, the 14-time gold medalist, was suspended for three months by USA Swimming and lost his Kellogg's endorsement deal.
