Jerry Springer: Set to star in West End's Chicago
The former politician and talk show host Jerry Springer will return to his native city to star in the musical "Chicago", playing Billy Flynn for six weeks.
The onetime Mayor of Cincinnati turned talk show host will join the cast at the Cambridge Theatre on June 1 for a season ending on July 11.
Jerry Springer joked, "I've a voice for newspapers and a face for radio. When I sing, the audience really get involved because they have to guess where the notes have been". Then he said that he will receive vocal training before his debut performance.
The 65 year old Springer said that he has to perform in eight shows a week and again joked "There's already a lottery as to which show I will keel over on. I've got four shows. So if you want to see me, come early".
Springer, who posed for pictures with cast members at a press conference, said he loved doing different things and would be "crazy to say no" to a West End show.
Jerry Springer has also taken some dance training. He has appeared in the 2006 series of US show "Dancing With The Stars". He can also draw on his past experience as a lawyer for the role.
Springer said that he will take the role seriously. He said, "I'm going to try to respect the traditions of the theatre and of the show. I'm going to work hard at it, I'm going to really rehearse and give it my best".
