John McEnroe: Turns 50
The 'enfant terrible' of men's tennis court is no longer an 'enfant', he is also not so 'terrible' now.
Former World No. 1 professional tennis player John McEnroe celebrated his 50th birthday on Monday.
Last Sunday John McEnroe played with Pete Sampras in an exhibition event in Boston.
Pete Sampras said about McEnroe, "At 50, he still plays great".
McEnroe broke records and shattered conventions during his stormy career which officially ended in 1992.
John McEnroe won seven Grand Slam singles titles — three at Wimbledon and four at the US Open, nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles and one Grand Slam mixed doubles title. He also won five Davis Cup titles.
McEnroe is remembered for his shot-making artistry and superb volleying for his rivalries.
On his 50th birthday, John McEnroe said, "I don't feel troubled by being 50, but I'm feeling fine. It's good to feel the work that I have been doing in the gym for the past five or six years has helped me. It's great to see the benefits both on the court and off".
John McEnroe has been the inspiration for many to start a tennis career.
