Mary-Kate Olsen: Speaks about fashion & memories of 'Full House'
May be Mary-Kate Olsen is a designer for her The Row and Elizabeth and James clothing lines with twin sister Ashley, but the formidable fashionista told the March issue of 'Interview' magazine that she wasn't always so knowledgeable.
"I didn't look at magazines until a couple of years ago, to be honest," she said. "I never really knew anything about fashion."
Taken by Craig McDean, the young star is almost unrecognizable in these new images of her in 'Interview'.
The 22-year-old star, indeed, said she didn't start shopping until she was 16 or 17, or, "when I could drive myself to stores and explore on my own."
As a matter of fact, she and her sister wore the same outfits to public appearances until they were teenagers.
"It would be the same dress and we'd fight over who would wear it in red and who would wear it in black," she said, laughing.
Among the things the former child stars shared, clothing wasn't the only thing. The two rose to fame by playing the role of Michelle on "Full House" as kids - an experience Mary-Kate remembers fondly.
"The outtakes... are pretty funny," she said, adding that who got to act on any given day depended on who was in a better mood.
"When we were younger, it was basically who wouldn't cry in front of the camera," she said. "As we got older, it would be split up by fun scenes. Like, say there was a cake-eating scene or riding an elephant ... We'd split it up that way."
Though she doesn't try to seek the show out, it's hard to get away from, even decades later.
"Last year, Ashley spent the night at my place and I woke up to the theme song at 7 in the morning," she laughed. "I was like, 'What are you doing?'"
