'Secret Life of Bees' wins best film at NAACP Image Awards
The 40th annual NAACP Image Awards ceremony has been held on Thursday evening. "The Secret Life of Bees", which is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, won outstanding film of 2008. The female-driven drama also won outstanding director award.
Oscar nominated and Golden Globe Awards winning movie, "Slumdog Millionaire", was named outstanding independent motion picture.
Will Smith and Rosario Dawson both were named outstanding actor and actress for "Seven Pounds".
Columbus Short earned supporting actor honors for "Cadillac Records" and Oscar nominated Taraji P. Henson won supporting actress for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".
The event was hosted by Tyler Perry and Halle Berry.
"Tyler Perry's House of Payne" received four honors, including outstanding comedy series and actor for LeVan Davis.
"Grey's Anatomy" won outstanding drama series, actress for Chandra Wilson and writing for Shonda Rhimes. Tracee Ellis Ross won for outstanding actress for the sitcom "Girlfriends". Taye Diggs was named supporting actor in a drama series for "Private Practice".
Hill Harper earned outstanding actor in a drama series "CSI: New York" and Angela Bassett won supporting actress for "E.R."
