Brad Paisley: Tops CMA list
Brad Paisley again proved his superstar status by winning six nominations for the 44th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, but the biggest surprise might be former Trick Pony singer Heidi Newfield's five nominations. He came in second position.
The nominees were announced on Wednesday morning during the CBS news program, "The Early Show". The ACM Awards ceremony will be broadcast live for the East Coast on April 5 on CBS.
Grammy Award-winning American country music singer-songwriter and guitarist, Brad Paisley, was nominated yesterday for entertainer of the year and male vocalist, an honor he won last year. He is also a finalist for record, song and video of the year for "Waitin' on a Woman" and for vocal event of the year for "Start a Band" with Keith Urban.
Kenny Chesney, Jamey Johnson and George Strait each received four nominations while Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban got three each. Trace Adkins, Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, James Otto, Jake Owen, Taylor Swift and Sugarland each received two nominations.
Carrie Underwood is the first woman since 2000 to get nominated for entertainer of the year. Historically, women don't get nominated too often in this category. If she wins, she would become the just the seventh female to take the award.
