Rihanna: Misses Grammys amid assault reports
Barbadian pop singer Rihanna cancelled her performance on Sunday night's Grammy Awards ceremony after Los Angeles police confirmed they were seeking her long-time boyfriend, R&B star Chris Brown, in connection with an allegation of domestic violence.
The 20 year old Rihanna was supposed to perform early in the show at the Staples Center before organizers abruptly announced her withdrawal just before the event.
A spokeswoman announced, "We have just been informed that Rihanna will not be attending the 51st Grammy Awards. We're sorry she will not be performing this evening. We have no further information".
Rihanna's last-minute absence from the show was hastily filled with ensemble performance by Justin Timberlake, Boyz II Men, soul legend Al Green and Keith Urban.
According to police report, a woman complained to police that she and Brown were in a car travelling in Los Angeles' Hancock Park neighborhood early on Sunday when an argument broke out. Brown allegedly stopped the vehicle and the argument escalated.
Police also reported that the woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker.
