Pop king Michael Jackson is in real soup. John Landis, the filmmaker whose credits include films like Animal House, The Blues Brothers and Trading Places, is suing Michael over another of his best known hit "Thriller" video. According to Landis Jackson owes him big bucks in royalties for the classic fourteen minutes clip.
Details about Michael Jackson have been inferred from quite a number of sources. As per the complaint that was launched in L.A. Superior Court last week this fifty eight year filmmaker has alleged the pop star of "fraudulent, malicious and oppressive conduct" .
Landis also said that he is yet to receive fifty percent of the net profits from the groundbreaking video, which he has co-written and directed. Not only that he has planned an hourlong "making of" documentary.
The suit did not specify the exact amount that Landis is owed. It is however assumed to be around 1 million dollars. In any case, the legal action comes at a unexpected time when Michael Jackson just sold the rights to the "Thriller" video to theatrical wizards Nederlander Organization which has planned to stage a Broadway musical based on the horror spoof.
However Michael Jackson’s representative Dr. Tohme Tohme, was not immediately available for comment.
Speaking to a popular entertainment site, Landis attorney Martin Feldman said that the lawsuit was a last resort.
He continued, "I can't understand what they are doing to John Landis' company. It is such a straight ahead thing," "It makes no sense at all to me." |
