Jim Carrey gives nod to "Yes Man"

Jim Carrey has said yes to "Yes Man," a comedy he hopes to shoot in October. Based on a memoir by British author Danny Wallace, the story centers on a man who decides to change his life by saying yes to absolutely everything that comes his way.

Unexpected comedic adventures ensue. Peyton Reed ("The Break-Up") will direct the Warner Bros. project. After "Yes,"
Jim Carrey will shoot "A Christmas Carol," which Robert Zemeckis is directing for Disney. His next film, the animated "Horton Hears A Who," will be released March 2008.  His recent releases include this year's "The Number 23" and 2005's "Fun with Dick and Jane".

Now, after years of comedies, dramas and even kiddie flicks, it has sometimes seemed like Jim Carrey would say “yes” to anything. Now, for a brand-new “Liar, Liar”-like movie, the funnyman will collaborate with a “Harry Potter” filmmaker on a script that asks him to do exactly that.

“I’ve got this film with Jim Carrey called ‘Yes Man,’ which I hope will get into production in the fall,” Potter producer David Heyman revealed to MTV News this week at the L.A. premiere of “Order of the Phoenix.”

After the perceived failure of
Jim Carrey’s thriller “The Number 23,” “Yes Man” — based on a book by Danny Wallace — will return him to the high-concept comedy realm that served him well in “Liar, Liar” and “Bruce Almighty.” The flick will mix the dilemmas he faced in those films with a more realistic concept along the lines of the Peter Sellers classic “Being There,” with Jim Carrey’s character using his self-imposed limitations to uncover the strange roads life takes him down.

“It’s about a man who finds himself very depressed, and is always saying no. When friends ask him out, he always says no,” Heyman said of the script. “[The film will explore] what happens when he decides to say yes to every thing that comes his way.”

When asked what the tone of the flick would be, Heyman insisted it would be old-school
Jim Carrey. “It’s really funny,” he grinned. “It’s one of the funniest scripts I’ve read.”

Heyman, who has produced such flicks as “Taking Lives” and “Ravenous,” has overseen all five of the Harry Potter flicks. Adding that no other actors have said yes to “Man” just yet, he said that more announcements on the high-profile flick will be coming soon.
