On Sunday he also has planned to fly back to Washington. There his seven year old daughter Sasha and ten year old Malia are going to start school on Monday.
It is also reported that Barack Obama and his family are going to keep a low profile while spending vacation on the island of Oahu. Besides his daily trips to the gymnasium and golf courses, Barack Obama occasionally left his vacation retreat that is a rented $9 million home near Honolulu.
On Thursday morning Barack Obama joked to onlookers at the gym that he was unwilling to return to Chicago, where temperatures were in the 20s.
"I wish I could hang out with you, but I've got to go home," added Barack Obama, thereby leaving the Marine Corps Base Hawaii's Semper Fit center in 70-degree weather.
During his vacation, Obama tried his best to take advantage of his last break before taking office on 20th January. Besides being involved in small talk with residents and pose for pictures with babies, he came out little in public.
During the visit, Barack Obama played golf for 3 times, twice at the private Mid-Pacific Country Club and once at Olomana Golf Links, a public course of which he is acquainted as a youth. On Tuesday he played basketball at his alma mater, the private Punahou School.
Barack Obama’s wife Michelle Obama also remained largely out of sight. Only he was seen doing occasional trip to the gym. She neither joined his husband nor the girls when they went to an aquatic park or to the zoo. Also she did not accompany Barack Obama when he visited the nearby Marine base on Christmas Day.
During his vacation Barack Obama did his best to stay out of the discussion over the increasing violence in the Middle East, where Israeli troops commenced an offensive against Hamas leaders who had fired rockets from Gaza. The supporters said there is only one president at a time. However Barack Obama received security briefings and was in touch with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and his incoming national security team.
On Tuesday pro-Palestinian activists also lend protest outside Obama's home and advocated a new approach to the Middle East. Barack Obama did not acknowledge them.
During the whole period the news of Barack Obama came from Oahu when the entire island lost electricity for eleven hours. All the aides of Obama commented that the family's house also lost power but did not use backup generators during the nighttime incident.
Barack Obama was born in Honolulu in the year 1961, almost 2 years after Hawaii became a state. He lived in Indonesia for 4 years when he shifted there along with his mother and stepfather. However he spent fourteen of his first 18 years as an islander.
Obama moved to the mainland to attend college in the year 1979 and has only returned for vacations. |
