Madonna: Sues against publication of wedding pictures
Pop diva Madonna has claimed more than £5m as compensation from a British tabloid. The tabloid has published some private photographs of Madonna's wedding to the film director Guy Ritchie.
Matthew Nicklin, the lawyer of Madonna told the High Court on Yesterday that the pictures of the "wholly private" event held in the lavish setting of Skibo Castle in the Highlands were copied "surreptitiously" by an interior designer during work at her home in Beverly Hills, then sold to the newspaper.
No photographs of the singer's marriage in 2000 has been published anywhere until the newspaper used 11 pictures over the front page and inside double-page.
Mr. Nicklin told to Mr Justice Eady that Madonna, who recently divorced Ritchie, has not received any warning about the publication.
Mr. Nicklin said that Madonna was seeking "in excess" of £5m damages from the publisher, although the paper only paid £5,000 for the pictures.
A spokesman of tabloid said, "The figure suggested by Madonna's lawyer is simply fantasy".
Further proceedings to assess the damages is expected in the new year. |
