 Natalie Maines: Sued for defamation
Natalie Maines, the ‘Dixie Chicks’ singer, is going through a very bad phase. She has been the target of a defamation lawsuit that was issued by the stepfather of one of three eight year old boys who were killed in the year 1993.
Details about Natalie Maines have been inferred from quite a number of sources. As per their reports Natalie spoke out for three people who were convicted of the killing and also brought out the allegation of the involvement of the stepfather in it.
On November 25 Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of Steve Branch, who was murdered along with Christopher Byers and Michael Moore, has filed a suit in Pulaski County Circuit Court. The suit has named all three members of the Dixie Chicks with due emphasis on Natalie Maines.
The suit has sought compensatory and disciplinary damages. Hobbs also has claimed that he suffered loss of income, damage to his reputation and emotional distress.
On 19th December Natalie Maines has participated in a rally in Little Rock, where she claimed that Jessie Misskelley Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols, who were accused of the murder charge, were innocent and new evidence were found which pointed to Hobbs as the murderer. The comments of Natalie too echoed a Nov. 26, 2007, letter that was still accessible on the website of Dixie Chicks' in which she asserted that new DNA testing of hair that was found on the location of the murder has linked Hobbs to the killings. Also Hobbs’ behavior after the slayings indicated his guilt.
The lawsuit said that the claim is false.
During an interview with the reporters of a popular newspaper Hobbs commented that due to Natalie Maines his reputation was in tatters and therefore he wanted to clear his name from the accusation.
Hobbs continued, "I want people to know I haven't done nothing wrong." "I want them to hear it from me."
Neither lawyer for Natalie Maines was listed in court filings nor a publicist returned a call for comment. Hobbs' attorney, J. Cody Hiland, also did ntt immediately return a call for comment on Thursday.
As per the lawsuit the statements of Natalie Maines were "so extreme in degree as to be beyond the pale of decency and to be regarded as atrocious and utterly intolerable in civilized society." |
