Barack Obama: Names Jarrett as senior adviser
President-elect Barack Obama has formally named Valerie Jarrett for his White House senior adviser.
Valerie Jarrett is a prominent Chicago business and political figure and influential member of Barack Obama's inner circle. She is also a personal friend of Obama and his wife, Michelle, for years.
In an official announcement, hopefully on Saturday, Valerie Jarrett will be named as senior advisor and assistant to the president in charge of intergovernmental relations. The appointment means the longtime Chicagoan will move to Washington to assume a key role in the administration as it takes shape.
Jarrett is already serving as co-chairwoman of the Obama's transition panel.
Jarrett, who turned 52 years old on Friday, joked saying, "My birthday present from the president-elect".
Barack Obama told on Friday that he would meet privately on Monday in Chicago with John McCain, his general election challenger and a Republican senator from Arizona, to discuss areas of common ground. |
