 Madonna: Makes appeal to fans
Pop diva Madonna is up on her heels in making her new endeavor a success. She requests all her fans to donate money so that she can build a school for girls in Malawi for underprivileged children.
Details about Madonna’s appeal have been gathered from multiple sources. In a video that was posted on her official web site, the singer talked about her source of inspiration for undertaking the multimillion-dollar project.
Madonna, who officially adopted a young Malawian boy, David Banda, in May, commented, "There are very few girls in Africa in general who are encouraged or allowed to go to secondary school, so after spending a lot of time there I realized that one of the ways I could help is to build a girls' school,"
On Thursday Madonna made an appeal to her fans by saying, "I would really be grateful if you would get involved and help me in any way that you can, with donations, spreading the word, visiting my Web site, reading about the progress that we've made so far."
Fifty-year-old pop diva is presently on the U.S. leg of her world tour, and is also facing the divorce procedure from British film director Guy Ritchie.
Madonna has named her project as The Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. She has also established a charity for orphans of Malawi namely Raising Malawi. In addition she also has produced a documentary this year about the difficulty of children who lost parents due to AIDS in one of the world's poorest countries. |
