 John Daly: Passed away
Oscar winning British film producer John Daly has expired on Friday after a long battle with cancer. He was 71.
John Daly's daughter Jenny said that her father died in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles.
Over a career spanning four decades, John Daly has produced many award winning films, including Platoon, Terminator and The Last Emperor, which won Oscars in 1987 and 1988.
Daly helped to produce films that earned 13 best picture Academy Awards and a further 21 Oscar nominations.
He also helped the actors like Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves and Julia Roberts to start their career in film industry.
John Daly, who was born in London, joined with British actor David Hemmings in 1967 to form Hemdale, a company which managed rock bands such as Yes and Black Sabbath. Hemdale went on to become a leading independent film producer and distributor, producing more than 100 films.
Lawrence Lotman, the company's chief financial officer and acting chief executive officer said, "John was truly a giant in the industry who changed filmmaking for the better".
John Daly has been survived by three sons and a daughter. |
