 Queen Elizabeth II: Opens hockey match in Slovakia
On Friday Queen Elizabeth II has wrapped up her visit to Slovakia with a funicular ride in the Tatras Mountains that was situated in the north of the formerly communist country. Prince Philip also accompanied her.
More news on Queen Elizabeth II has been inferred from quite a number of sources. As per their reports she rode on the funicular to the mountain station of Hrebienok. There she met the "people of the Tatras”, the skiers who dressed up in historic costumes, foresters, mountain guides and rescuers.
Queen Elizabeth II has unveiled a memorial plaque and also opened a wheelchair-accessible tourist pathway in foggy and chilly weather.
While Queen Elizabeth II watched traditional folklore dancing and singing in the nearby town of Spisska Sobota, the Duke of Edinburgh paid a visit to a green tourist resort that was powered by geothermal and solar energy in the northern city of Poprad.
Over four thousand spectators watched while Queen Elizabeth II symbolically dropped the puck between Aquacity Poprad and Guildford Flames ice-hockey players in Poprad before leaving for London.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip then flew to the north of the country on Friday morning. It was followed by official program on Thursday that included meetings with top politicians in the capital city of Bratislava.
Their trip to Slovakia follows a 2-day tour of Slovenia and captured the spotlight of all the newspapers in Slovakia.
"The visit of British Queen Elizabeth II is one of the greatest diplomatic events in Slovakia's contemporary history." This came as a report in a popular newspaper. It is further said that Queen’s visit could only be matched by a visit of eminent personalities like George W. Bush, Vladimir Putin or Pope John Paul II visit. |
