Bruce Springsteen: Raises fund for Obama
Musicians Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel teamed up on Thursday night for a concert to raise money for Barack Obama's presidential campaign and the Democratic Party.
They also got help from India Arie, John Legend and Springsteen's wife, Patti Scialfa, as they tore through the rock legends' long list of hits at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
The cost of tickets were between $500 and $10,000.
While performing "Born to Run", Bruce Springsteen said, "This is for the senator".
As the show concluded, Senator Barack Obama entered into the Hammerstein Ballroom and thanked Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and all others for participating in a fund-raising concert benefiting the Obama Victory Fund.
Obama said, "What a magical evening, which I will not spoil with a long speech".
After speaking for a bit to the crowd about issues, Obama urged his supporters to get to work for his election.
Obama told, "Don't underestimate the capacity of Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Don't underestimate our ability to screw it up. I want everybody running scared".
Barack Obama also explained the cause for his decision to seek the White House.
He said to the audience, "I was sitting offstage with Michelle, and I said, 'Honey, the reason I'm running for president is I can't be Bruce Springsteen. I can't be Billy Joel".
Bruce Springsteen's song "The Rising" has become an unofficial anthem for Obama's campaign, often playing when Obama bounds onstage at his rallies. |
