The estate of a Macy's department store heir has sued Jay Leno, the comedian and car collector from United States by saying that a garage at Manhattan has stolen the heir's 1931 Model J Duesenberg. After that he has illegally sold it to Leno in the year 2005.
To be specific, 2 antique cars owned by John Strauss namely the Duesenberg and also a 1930 Rolls Royce were kept in Manhattan's Windsor Garage for fifty years till the year 2005. At that time the garage has put them up for auction without prior knowledge of Strauss. This is as per the words of the lawsuit that has been filed on Tuesday in New York State Supreme Court.
According to the lawsuit, the garage authority said that it has taken possession of the cars since Strauss owed 29,000 dollars as parking fees.
It is also mentioned that the estate wants the cars to be returned and sought unspecified financial damages.
Jay Leno also purchased the Duesenberg, a custom-ordered town car. However another person has bought the Rolls Royce.
"Notwithstanding the hundreds of thousands of dollars paid by Strauss to the garage over the years, these vehicles were purportedly auctioned off to satisfy certain relatively trivial parking bills," stated in the lawsuit.
From the above-mentioned lawsuit it also has been revealed that Strauss, who suffered from dementia at the time, died this year.
A spokesman for Jay Leno has declined to say anything in this matter.
