Angelina Jolie: Turns into role model for new mothers

Famous Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has captured spotlight. She has been photographed breastfeeding one of her newly born twins thereby establishing her as a role model for new mothers.

More news on Angelina Jolie has been inferred from quite a number of sources. According to them, the photograph that has been taken by her darling beau Brad Pitt will adorn the November issue of a famous news magazine of United States. Other family pictures taken by Pitt after the birth of twins Vivienne Marcheline and Leon Knox in the month of July will also appear inside the magazine.

"I think it is fabulous. Seeing a celebrity like Angelina Jolie breast-feed can be a role model to encourage women to make a choice that is wonderful for their baby," added Andi Silverman, who is mother of two children and also the author of "Mama Knows Breast."

"Breasts are used to sell all sorts of products, so to see them used the way nature intended can only be a great thing." Silverman commented this while talking to the reporters of a famous news magazine of United States.

But while breast-feeding support groups and moms celebrated Jolie's public statement, one expert said the picture felt like voyeurism, especially given Jolie's sex symbol status in movies like "Wanted" and "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider".

According to the official records, nearly seventy percent of American mothers breast-feed their newborns. However the rate has fallen drastically after 6 months.

Thirty three year old Angelina Jolie is not the first celebrity to be photographed while nursing her baby. Earlier also Model Jerry Hall has appeared on the pages of Vanity Fair in the year 1991 when she breast-fed Gabriel, her son with Mick Jagger.

However the global influence of Jolie as a style-setter and also through her humanitarian deeds and support of kids in 3rd World countries ensured the impact of the photo of her special moments with her baby.

"The response from moms we have seen is that if someone as popular, beautiful and together as Angelina is breast-feeding her children, it inspires other women to do so themselves.," This comment has been posted by a psychotherapist namely Dr Shannon Fox in a public website.

So far as the photograph of Angelina Jolie is concerned, little is seen in the picture of the act of breast-feeding. It also depicts Jolie smiling, while a tiny hand is just visible at bottom of the frame.

However Dr Fox said that the cover photo of the magazine sends a second message to its audiences.

"The problem is that she is also an international sex symbol. So whether or not she says 'This is a beautiful way of nurturing my baby', every man who sees that photo will see those breasts as sexual," added Fox.

La Leche League International, the world's oldest breast-feeding support organization, commented that Angelina Jolie’s breast feeding photo was particularly welcome as Jolie has twins.

"Mothers of twins report it takes a lot of time, effort and physical energy to breast-feed. I think the picture is beautiful," added La Leche League International spokeswoman Jane Krouse.
