 Michelle Obama: Appeals to vote on issues only
Michelle Obama appealed to peoples on Thursday to vote on the issues only and not because, "I like that guy" or, "she's cute". Especially, she appealed to female voters, saying that her husband, Democratic Senator Barack Obama, is the only candidate for president who is committed to ending income disparities between men and women.
Michelle Obama, who is an American lawyer, is part of a concerted effort involving her husband, Sen. Joe Biden and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to neutralize the appeal that Sarah Palin has brought to John McCain's ticket for some female voters.
Michelle Obama was delivering her speech at a women's roundtable on the economy in Charlotte on Thursday.
She told the people, who were gathered to listen her speech, that Barack Obama is the only candidate, whose focus is on equal pay, health care, affordable college, teacher recruitment and other issues of concern to women.
Obama joked saying, "People shouldn't make a decision this time based on, 'I like that guy' or 'she's cute'". The line won a big round of applause.
Michelle Obama also said, "Each of the women on this stage has a unique story. Women voters could decide this election".
Senator Barack Obama campaign's second high-profile visit to Charlotte this week, following vice presidential candidate Joe Biden's on Sunday came as new polls show him and John McCain virtually tied in North Carolina.
Obama narrowly led among women 49 percent to 44 percent but trailed McCain among white women 53 percent to 40 percent in an Associated Press-GfK Poll of likely voters this month.
Michelle Obama called the women onstage the faces of an American dream that she told the crowd right now keeps many up at night worried about their finances. Obama says her husband can fix that. She said, "I would love it if you were voting for Barack Obama. I think he's the only choice". |
