Bill Gates: Remains richest American for 15 years in a row
The 52 year old Bill Gates, the Microsoft founder remained wealthiest person in the United States for the 15th year, according to Forbes magazine.
Bill Gates topped the list of the magazine with a net worth of $57 billion, this was down from the last year's $59 billion.
Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., came in second with a net worth of $50 billion, according to Forbes, which late yesterday released its annual list of the 400 richest Americans. The list will be published in the Oct. 6 issue of Forbes magazine.
The magazine said, "The biggest loser this year was casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, whose fortune has fallen $13 billion in the past 12 months - $1.5 million per hour - as shares of his Las Vegas Sands have dropped 75 per cent from their all-time highs last October".
Matthew Miller, editor of the Forbes list said, "The fact that the rich are not getting richer means that the economy is locked. Credit is not being extended, there is very little liquidity in the markets and deals can't get done, so the economy contracts".
Despite the losses, Adelson is still ranked 15th in the list.
