Christina Applegate is up on her heels for a noble cause. Along with other cancer survivors like Patrick Swayze, Sheryl Crowe, cyclist Lance Armstrong and dozens of other celebrities, she "stood up" to battle the disease in a charity television fund-raising program on Friday.
Sources have highlighted on the news of Christina Applegate. According to them, in a rare collaboration of three rival television networks of United States, all the Hollywood stars came together in order to make appeal for millions of dollars for accelerating research work and eradicate cancer from the face of the Earth.
Interestingly, maximum of those who took part in the telethon has lost relations to cancer or suffered from the disease themselves. Thirty-six year Christina Applegate, the star of TV comedy "Samantha Who?" currently had a double mastectomy. "
The one-hour, commercial free "Stand Up To Cancer" specially highlighted advances in research in gene therapy and promising alternatives to unbearable chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
It also promoted early detection programs that include a short "Simpsons" cartoon about Homer Simpson having a colonoscopy.
Apart from Christina Applegate eminent personalities like Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Fergie and Leona Lewis performed a new charity single "Just Stand Up," whose proceeds will go to the cause.
Viewers heard the stories of dozens of Americans who are suffering from deadly cancer. They also could see videotaped pledges from presidential contenders John McCain and Barack Obama to work to beat the disease.
