Laura Ziskin: Stands up to cancer telethon
For last few years, film producer Laura Ziskin was busy with some of Hollywood's most high-profile brands, including the "Spider-Man" franchise and producing the Academy Awards.
Now Laura Ziskin is working on a most important project. Ziskin, who has breast cancer, is now producing "Stand Up To Cancer". Stand Up To Cancer will unite the major television networks, entertainment industry executives, celebrities and prominent leaders in cancer research and patient advocacy. More than 60 celebrities will participate in Stand Up to Cancer, one-hour event that will air on Friday simultaneously on ABC, NBC and CBS. The goal is to raise money for groundbreaking cancer treatment and research.
Jennifer Garner, Sheryl Crow, Jack Black, Halle Berry, Ellen DeGeneres, Jessica Alba, Carrie Underwood, Sharon Osbourne, Keanu Reeves, Rob Lowe and Diane Keaton are among the stars set to appear in Laura Ziskin's show, it was announced last week.
Laura Ziskin, a cancer survivor who helped to establish the event and the nonprofit group behind it, said that the celebrities, along with network news anchors Katie Couric, Charles Gibson and Brian Williams, will deliver an evening of "edutainment".
Laura Ziskin also said that the aim of the event is to motivate the scientists to work together to improve overall cancer care and prognoses. |
