Kate Moss: Gold sculpture created in British Museum
A 50kg solid gold sculpture of supermodel Kate Moss worth 1.5 million pound has been unveiled in the British Museum today.
Siren was made by Marc Quinn, the artist whose most famous work was Alison Lapper Pregnant. The London-born artist previously created Sphinx, a white-painted bronze sculpture of fashion icon Kate Moss, 34, in a contorted yoga pose.
His sculpture of Kate Moss is the largest gold statue made in the world since the time of Ancient Egypt.
When asked about choosing Kate Moss as a subject, Quinn said, "I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who's the ideal beauty of the moment".
The statue will be displayed in the Nereid Gallery of the British Museum, alongside other statues such as Crouching Venus, a Hellenistic model of Venus surprised while bathing.
The exhibition will run from October 4 to January 25 at the British Museum. |
