 Usain Bolt: Made another world record
After making world record and winning gold medal in 100 m run, once again Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt made another world record in 200 m run completing in 19.30 seconds and won gold medal on Wednesday. He broke the previous world record of 19.32 seconds, which was set by American Michael Johnson in the 1996 Olympic Games.
The 21 year old Usain Bolt has already broken the 100m world record in the Games when he became the fastest man in the world in 9.69 seconds.
Usain Bolt is the first athlete in 24 years to win Olympic gold medal in both 100 m and 200 m.
He is also the ninth man in Olympic history to claim the 100m-200m double, following Archie Hahn (1904), Ralph Craig (1912), Percy Williams (1928), Eddie Tolan (1932), Jesse Owens (1936), Bobby Morrow (1956), Valeri Borzov (1972) and Carl Lewis (1984).
Usain Bolt lived upto his awesome reputation to break the world record with a decent lead over his rival Churandy Martina of Dutch Antilles.
Churandy Martina got the silver in 19.82 seconds and Shawn Crawford of the United States won the bronze in 19.96 seconds.
After winning the race, Usain Bolt draped the Jamaican flag around his neck and danced in joy in the National Stadium at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on Wednesday. |
