Michael Phelps: Talks about own life
Michael Phelps, the winner of eight gold medals in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, has shared his thoughts and views. He talks how he has emerged as the greatest Olympian of all time from a restless child.
To be specific, this twenty three year old American swimmer , who won his unprecedented 8 gold medals with 7 world records and a personal-best performance that gave him victory by a fingertip, sought a dream that first began even before he became the youngest man who has broken a swimming world record at the age of fifteen.
"The reason why I was so emotional is that I have dreamed of a lot of things and written things down". "This was the biggest thing I have ever written down. Thinking of all the things I have done to get here, everything I have gone through." The comment has been put forth by Michael Phelps himself to the reporters.
Before the start of the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, Michael Phelps hardly discussed about his ambition of reaching the target of achieving Mark Spitz's seven gold at single Olympic Games.
Late last year Michael Phelps thought that he has blown his chance when he broke his wrist. It was only due to the encouragement of Coach Bob Bowman who first detected the hidden talent of Michael Phelps at age of eleven, the swimmer slowly overcame his injury and came out to be victorious.
According to Michael, at that time though Bowman realized Phelps's energy and will no other person realized such potential in the youngster.
"My mom and I still joke about the fact I had a middle school teacher who said I would never be successful," added Michael Phelps, who has been brought up by his mother, Debbie, with his two older, swimming sisters, Hilary and Whitney.
All three were in Beijing at time of Michael Phelps’ triumph.
"I saw my mom for a minute and we hugged, she started crying, I started crying, my sister started crying," Phelps added this to the media.
Earlier Bowman knew that Michael Phelps would be world champion but even he was surprised by the speed with which Phelps made his name at the top level, thereby nabbing his first world record in the year 2001 in the 200m butterfly - a year after he finished 5th in the event at the Sydney Olympics.
At the age of nineteen, due to constant training and encouragement of Bowman Michael Phelps got an impressive six gold medals and two bronze at the Athens Olympic Games.
Bowman too has put forth his comments about Michael Phelps’ achievement while talking to the reporters of a popular news agency. According to him, “What impresses me the most is his comments in the press conference and how he expresses himself". "I have seen him swim some good meets and some fast times, but I think he has a better grasp of what this means to the world - not just the swimming world - and I think that is a great thing to see.
Further Bowman said, "He is a man now and has been through a lot of things. He has a real clear picture of who he is, why he is here and what he is doing." |
