 America Ferrera: Honored at ALMAs
America Ferrera, the star of the television show "Ugly Betty", has been named as the Chevy Entertainer of the Year. The 24 year old America Ferrera has been honored for her role in "Ugly Betty" at the 2008 ALMA Awards.
ALMA Award or the American Latino Media Arts Award is a distinction awarded to Latino performers (actors, film and television directors, and musicians) who promote positive portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment field.
The ABC comedy series won awards for directing and best performance by a Latino-led ensemble cast.
Colombian singer Shakira was also recognised for her offstage efforts, receiving the Humanitarian Award for her work in early childhood education.
The two-hour program, taped on Sunday at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, which will be telecasted on September 12 on ABC.
BeBe Winans, Wynonna Judd and Lucero, performed a tribute to Linda Ronstadt, who received the Trailblazer Award for her contributions to American music.
