Tim Burton: Lawsuit dismissed by court
Famous director Tim Burton has at last got sigh of relief. A long drawn lawsuit filed by his former girl friend over his assets has been dismissed. The initiative was taken as per the decision of the appeal court.
Sources have thrown more light on the news of Tim Burton. According to them, the California Court of Appeals has issued a ruling on Wednesday thereby commanding a lower court judge to award a motion by the attorneys of Burton attorneys for a summary judgment.
The move puts a stop to a trial that is scheduled to be held sometime next week that would have focused on the decade-long relationship of the couple that ended in the year 2001.
Tim Burton's longtime girlfriend, Lisa Marie has brought litigation against the director in the year 2006. She claimed that she was being cheated out of money that Burton had promised her during their relationship.
Douglas Bagby, who is representing Burton, praised the ruling and also clarified that the suit should have never been filed.
Lara Ott, an attorney representing Marie, said that on Thursday she plans to appeal the ruling. She said that she expects that the case should eventually go to trial.
In court documents, Burton claimed that he paid 5.5 million dollars to Marie. She also has signed an agreement thereby relinquishing any claims to future assets and should return the payout if she did not want to abide by the contract. This argument has been put forth by Tim Burton.
Countering the argument, Marie commented that she was forced to sign the contract and Burton also have promised to take care of her "financial support and needs for the rest of her life."
In the month of July, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa Sanchez-Gordon denied a motion by the attorneys of Tim Burton to annul the case.
Tim Burton met Marie, a former Calvin Klein model, at a club in the year 1991. He has signed her several films, including "Ed Wood," "Mars Attacks" and also remake of the film “Planet of the Apes".
Burton met Helena Bonham Carter, whom he is currently dating, while filming "Planet of the Apes." The couple has two children. |
