 Chris Brown: Designs caps
Chris Brown, the famous singer, has set his foot for another venture. He has designed a line of branded caps for headwear and apparel maker called New Era Cap. In return the company is going to pay a royalty for every hat being sold.
The caps will go on sale on August 14 at hat retailer Lids, New Era stores and newera.com. Chris Brown's line of baseball-style caps features 6 designs that include one evoking the style of era of 1980s along with an image of a boom box. There is another label that features the initials "CBE," for Chris Brown Entertainment. It is Chris Brown's record label on Interscope.
Chris Brown, who also has declined to put forth his comment on the deal, designed ten hats and retained ownership rights to the four unused designs. Instead of paying a flat fee to Chris Brown, New Era will pay him a royalty that is calculated on the basis of number of hats being sold. The pact marks second royalty-based deal of New Era with a celebrity.
Earlier this year, the company has signed first such deal with film director called Spike Lee. All Lee's hats were sold for 60 dollars, while Brown's hats will be retailed for $35 to $40.
Before signing deal with New Era, Chris Brown also has sported the company's caps in videos for his singles ttiled "Kiss Kiss," "Run It!," "Wall to Wall" and also currently for David Banner's "Get Like Me (Stuntin' Is a Habit)."
New Era has declined to provide specific information about expected compensation of Chris Brown. However it is to be noted that sales of almost five thousand caps would be considered noteworthy. "Usually what we've done with celebrity collaborations has been limited and not intended for the mass market." "We saw this as a next step to open up to a larger market." This comment has been put forth by New Era entertainment marketing manager Jennifer Yu.
The New Era pact is Chris Brown's second branding venture of the summer. On July 29, William Wrigley Jr. Co. has made the announcement that it has commissioned Chris Brown, Ne-Yo and Julianne Hough to record new versions of some of the signature jingles of the chewing-gum company.
Known as a licensed cap maker for Major League Baseball and other professional and amateur sports clients, New Era currently secured licensing agreements with Warner Bros.' DC Comics and Marvel Comics for launching superhero-branded cap series. In the month of July, New Era also has signed a deal with Microsoft's Zune digital media player under which New Era will produce limited-edition caps. |
