Actor Christian Bale, the star of the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight", was arrested and released on Tuesday by London police after his mother and sister filed a complaint. While questioned by London plice, he denied the allegations.
The actor's spokeswoman Jennifer Allen said that the 34 year old Christian Bale, who is riding high as Hollywood's latest blockbuster film star, spent several hours at a London police station before being released without charge.
Yesterday, Allen said in a statement, "Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister".
The British press reported that Christian Bale was accused of lashing out at his mother and sister on Sunday in his suite at the downtown Dorchester hotel. The police questioned for four hours on Tuesday morning and then released him.
A Scotland Yard police spokeswoman said that the actor was arrested on allegations of assault but was not charged and later said he was out on bail to return in September pending further inquiries into two allegations of assault.
Bale's mother, Jenny, and sister, Sharon, who both live outside of London, reportedly made the allegations in a police station in the southern England county of Hampshire.
Christian Bale attended the European premiere of "The Dark Knight" at the Odeon West End cinema in Leicester Square on Monday night, and also took part in four press conferences on Monday.
