Bob Marley: Statue to be erected in Serbia
There is good news for the fans of Bob Marley, the legendary rock singer of Jamaica. A beautiful status of the rocker will be erected in Banatski Sokolac’s small Serbian hamlet. On Thursday all the organisers of a rock music fest have revealed the news in front of media reporters.
"We are honoured to announce that the first monument in Europe of the reggae legend Bob Marley will be erected in Banatski Sokolac." The statement has been forwarded in "Rock Village" festival’s official site.
"Our village thus enters into history and supporters and all those who respect this 'liberty fighter armed with a guitar' can take part in the unveiling ceremony" added a source in another site.
Last year, two other Serbian villages have already enshrined statues of the late actor Johnny Weissmuller, who was famous for his role as "Tarzan", and Sylvester Stallone's famous film character "Rocky Balboa".
Born on February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981, Bob Marley has gained recognition as a musician, singer-songwriter and guitarist for the ska, rocksteady and reggae bands like The Wailers (1964 – 1974) and Bob Marley & the Wailers (1974 – 1981). Marley has died nearly 30 years ago, but remains the most widely known and honored performer of reggae music. It would not be an exaggeration if he is credited for aiding the spread of Jamaican music to the international audience.
Bob Marley's best known hits are "No Woman, No Cry", "I Shot the Sheriff", "Exodus", "Could You Be Loved", "Jamming", "Stir It Up", "Redemption Song", "One Love" along with posthumous releases namely "Buffalo Soldier" and "Iron Lion Zion". The album titled Legend that was released in the year 1984, three years after his death, is the best-selling reggae album that has recorded sales of over twelve million copies. |
