Paul Hogan: Faces allegation of tax evasion
Australian tax authorities have pursued the U.S. Internal Revenue Service to obtain Paul Hogan's banking records after a newspaper reported that he was under investigation for tax evasion. Four companies related to Hogan have been ordered to hand over documents.
Actor Paul Hogan, the star of "Crocodile Dundee" films, has challenged Australian tax investigators.
The 68 year old actor spoke to Australia's Ten Network television outside his mansion in Santa Barbara, California, delivering an obscenity-laced statement addressed to the Australian Taxation Office.
"Come and get me," Paul Hogan said with a grin.
Hogan, targeted by an Australian tax evasion task force set up three years ago to track foreign taxable income, has repeatedly denied that he dodged taxes. Paul Hogan is fighting the IRS involvement, arguing that it is being used to obtain documents that Australian officials could not lawfully obtain.
The actor said that he was prepared to return to Australia in September to make a movie. He joked saying, "I will be arrested the minute I land on the shore, of course, but I have a gun; so be warned". |
