 Chevy Chase: Hosts Newport Jazz festival for second time
Comedian Chevy Chase, who stars in ‘Saturday Night Live’, will host the Newport Jazz Festival for the second time. As per schedule the JVC Jazz Festival-Newport will start from 8 August to 10th August at the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Fort Adams State Park.
Chevy Chase has a passion for jazz and piano playing. In the festival also he has been given the responsibility of introducing the musicians who will perform on the main stage. Amongst several artists names of people like Aretha Franklin, Sonny Rollins and Herbie Hancock deserve special mentioning.
While in college, sixty four year old Chevy Chase played drums in a jazz band with other musical personalities like Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, who later became popular as Steely Dan. Before capturing the spotlight with the beginning of 1975 season of "Saturday Night Live," Chase used to pay visit to the Village Vanguard and other New York clubs where he became friendly with several jazz legends. Miles Davis even gave him the invitation of sitting in one night in place of Tony Williams, the drummer. |
