Martha Stewart: Banned from UK entry
US lifestyle guru Martha Stewart has been refused a visa to visit Britain because of her criminal record. She has served a prison sentence for lying to US investigators about a stock deal.
Martha Stewart was planning to come down to Britain in the next few days to speak at the Royal Academy in London and to hold meetings with fashion designers.
The UK Border Agency did not comment on the case.
Charles Koppelman, chairman of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, said in a statement, "Martha loves England; the country and English culture are near and dear to her heart. "She has engagements with English companies and business leaders and hopes this can be resolved so that she will be able to visit soon".
The statement was released after British newspapers, led by the Telegraph, reported that she had been refused a visa to enter Great Britain because of her criminal convictions four years ago.
It was not clear, whether Martha Stewart was the victim of a blanket rule imposed by the agency.
Martha Stewart served five months in prison in 2004 for lying to federal agents investigating the sale of shares shortly before they plummeted in value. |
