 Barack Obama: Gets support from many Hollywood celebrities
Drama is taking a new stride. Several Hollywood stars who have supported Hillary Clinton are giving support to Barack Obama, with the pledge of donating money and star power to his U.S. presidential bid before a big fundraiser that has been scheduled to be held sometime next week.
Experts have said that since Hillary Clinton conceded defeat this month after a exhausting contest of Democratic nomination, celebrities have quickly united with Barack Obama.
They also have come forth with the result that it could be a campaign cash windfall for the senator from Illinois. According to them, the support of the stars does not necessarily translate directly to votes.
A senior scholar at the University of Southern California, Sherry Bebitch Jeffe, too has given opinion regarding Barack Obama. It is said that once a politician becomes known, voters look for candidates with positions they like and with whom they can identify, irrespective of the support of the celebrities.
On the contrary, stars can cause harm if a public image of a performer snatches voters in the wrong way. That happened when Jane Fonda and Barbra Streisand have campaigned for ex Texas Gov. Ann Richards in her conservative state, and Richards lost the bid. According to them, this might happen in case of Barack Obama as well.
"Sometimes they can come back to bite the candidate," added Jeff.
But Los Angeles is a town where stars wield a great deal of power and have money to spend. In fact quite a number of celebrities are expected to turn out at a fundraiser on Tuesday.
Director Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, his partner in the Dreamworks movie studio, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, Dreamworks Animation Chief Executive Officer are coordinating another fundraiser for Barack Obama sometime later this year. This has been put forth by a consultant to the Hollywood power trio called Andy Spahn.
He has further commented that "If a Hollywood celebrity puts his or her mind to it, they're good money raisers." |
