 George Carlin: To receive Mark Twain humor prize
George Carlin will receive the 2008 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced on Tuesday that the 71 year old George Carlin will be honored for his 50 year career as a Grammy-winning standup comedian, writer and actor.
The center has decided to salute Carlin at a tribute performance by the former colleagues on November 10th, 2008. The ceremony will later be televised on PBS.
Richard Pryor was the first man to receive the award in 1998. Past honorees include Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Lily Tomlin.
George Carlin has released 22 solo albums and three best-selling books. He has participated in a variety of TV and movie roles. He is famous for his "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV" routine. |
