 Warren Beatty: Receives AFI's lifetime achievement award
American Film Institute honoured Oscar-winning actor-director Warren Beatty with lifetime achievement award.
Bill Clinton was also among those, who saluted Warren Beatty in the Thursday night's ceremony at the Kodak Theatre.
Stars such as Jane Fonda, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Diane Keaton, Quentin Tarantino,Halle Berry, George McGovern, Gary Hart and Jerry Brown were there for the celebration for Beatty's 47 year career as an actor, writer, director and producer.
Clips from Warren Beatty's movies are featured in the ceremony and taped tributes from Barbra Streisand, Gene Hackman, Goldie Hawn and John McCain.
Gary Hart told about the 71 year old Warren Beatty, "as true and loyal a friend as I have ever had in this life".
McGovern thanked Beatty for throwing a fundraising concert in 1972.
Halle Berry, who was co-star of Warren Beatty in "Bulworth", told, "a true legend ... a man willing to take a risk to say something meaningful to the audience through his film".
Dustin Hoffman joked about Beatty's best friend Jack Nicholson's absence. He told, "Rumor has it that he was going to try to combine the two. Rumor also has it that he might have been sitting courtside in a tuxedo".
Jack Nicholson appeared later and said, "Beatty has received eight times as many awards as he's made pictures. You get all these honors because of your passion and your dedication to excellence. This is why I'm crazy about your work".
Warren Beatty, who won a Oscar for 1981's "Reds" for best direction, said that his big sister Shirley MacLaine had led him into the movie business.
Warren Beatty said about his profession and his wife Annette Bening, "I love my profession because it's introduced me to the person who's given me the most important thing of all, which is her love and the love of our four children...Annette. I can thank the movies for leading me to you".
"The 36th Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Warren Beatty" will be shown on June 25 on the USA Network.  |
