 Wayne Rooney: Marries under heavy shower
Manchester United football star Wayne Rooney got married on Thursday to his girlfriend Coleen McLoughlin under heavy shower on the Italian Riviera.
A procession of vehicles accompanied the couple along with close friends and family into the Villa Durazzo, a 17th-century palace overlooking the Mediterranean, for the exchange of vows.
Afterwards Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin were given a police escort for the short journey to La Cervara church.
The newly-wed couple, both being 22, reportedly put up five million pounds for their nuptials, half of it covered by selling exclusive picture rights to the celebrity magazine OK!
Burly guards stood to stop the photographers, TV crews and reporters who gathered in the resort of Santa Margherita Ligure. All of them were desperate to snatch a picture of the Wayne Rooney's bride in her wedding finery.
Former footballer Giovanni Costa, deputy mayor of Santa Margherita officiated at the ceremony.
Wayne Rooney and his wife were snapped at the local town hall on Tuesday, where they formally declared their intention to wed, as required by Italian law.
They have requested to all their guests not to buy presents but to make donations to a children's hospital. |
