 Shakira: Campaigns for hapless kids
Shakira, the pop diva from Colombia, is taking resort to her popularity and fame in order to help the poor children of Latin America.
Details about Shakira’s news have been gathered from sources. During an event that was organized by a children’s charitable organization namely ALAS, Shakira has talked about her plans.
"There are 40 million children in Latin America who have no access to any kind of development program, who receive no stimulation, nutrition or education and need to be nurtured and taken care of." This is the comment of the pop star.
"Artists have a tremendous power to communicate, to reach people, to woo, to inspire. It's an important and fundamental part of my life to be able to use my public profile to make certain issues visible, issues that are more important than my own career, that are more urgent and need immediate attention," adds Shakira.
It has been reported that Shakira, who has sold over fifty million albums through out the world, wants to raise awareness campaign about the tremendous poverty that affected millions of children from Latin America.
On Thursday, Shakira has made an announcement that Carlos Slim, Mexico's richest man, and Howard Buffett, son of U.S. investment mogul Warren Buffett, had promised to make a contribution of nearly 200 million dollars to the ALAS Foundation.
As part of awareness program, Shakira and Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz will also perform at a free concert in Buenos Aires on Saturday along with other Latin artists. A similar concert, headed by Spain's Miguel Bose, will also take place in the main square of Mexico City.
Very recently, she also visited Gordon Brown, the British Prime Minister, to talk about educational opportunities of third world countries. Moreover she went to Capitol Hill in Washington and also urged lawmakers to bestow upon her the approval of spending more time to help her benevolent work of sending the world's poor children to school.
Shakira’s own charity, the Pies Descalzos Foundation, too has been raising money since the year 1997 for poor children in Colombia.
In spite of devoting time for ameliorating the condition of Latin American children, Shakira, is very particular about her role as a new mother thereby giving enough time for rearing and nurturing her child as well.
"I want two," clarified the pop singer. However when asked about her plan to start a family, she laughed and said: "That's a good question."
Thirty one year Shakira has been dating Antonio de la Rua, the son of a former Argentine president, for almost 8 years. Over these years the couple was constantly being chased by numerous photographers for framing them together. Numerous gossip articles too were written that would give hint of their possible marriage.  |
