Time proves to be merry for Hugh Grant. This Hollywood actor along with his ex-girl friend Liz Hurley and her husband have received myriads of pounds (dollars) as compensation on Thursday. Money has been granted to them after their pictures were flashed in the tabloid newspapers of United States. Paparazzi have taken their snaps at the time when they have gone for holiday in Maldives.
The information that has been collected from various sources too has thrown some light on the whole incident of receiving money by Hugh Grant and his friends. The pictures of Grant, Hurley and her hubby Arun Nayar, the business tycoon, were taken at a private resort in the Maldives. It was the High Court of London that admitted the fact that the entire incident was quite distressing and also an instance of invasion of their privacy.
They were taken by paparazzi of agencies namely ‘Big Pictures (UK) Ltd and the French-based Eliot Press’.
The pictures of Hugh Grant along with his companions got published in the newspapers like ‘News of the World (NoW)’ and also in ‘Mail on Sunday (MoS)’ last year in the month of October.
Both the newspapers carried juicy headlines. According to the court, ‘the MoS article’ was headlined as "Hugh's that gooseberry?”. The other one namely ‘NoW’ has published the pictures below the caption "Liz does the blokey-cokey."
Hugh Grant, Liz Hurley and Nayar have accepted a total of 58,000 pounds (120,099 dollars) as compensation for damages that have occurred due to the intrusion of privacy. Not only that they also have demanded a public apology from the agencies.
According to the court, newspapers like ‘Publishers Associated Newspapers’ and ‘News Group Newspapers’ will also contribute to the settlement.
On behalf of the trio, Laura Tyler said the articles had been distressing. However the person was not present at the court.
"It has been most upsetting for (them) to have their privacy invaded by these (organisations)," added Justice David Eady. She further added that the agencies’ photographers should not have been taken the snaps and their actions truly have invaded the trio's privacy.
Forty seven year old Hugh Grant, who was highly acclaimed for his role in the romantic comedy titled ‘Four Weddings’ and ‘Funeral’, got separated from forty two year old Hurley in the year 2000. In this way a thirteen year old relationship between Hugh Grant and Liz Hurley came to an end.
