Time is not going all right for James Garner, the veteran actor. He has undergone surgery sometime this week after suffering a minor stroke. The confirmation of the news came from his spokesperson on Tuesday.
Eighty years old James Garner, who has built a six-decade career portraying the ruggedly charming, good-natured anti-heroes, suffered a stroke at his residence on last Friday. After that he was taken to a hospital of Los Angeles. Garner’s publicist namely Jennifer Allen has told this to the media.
More information about James Garner’s health has been inferred from varied sources. It is said that the actor underwent surgery on Sunday, and his ‘prognosis’ following the operation was described to be “very positive." According to Allen, James Garner's health showed signs of improvement and he was conscious and "responsive."
Allen also said that James Garner was expected to be discharged from the hospital very soon. However she could not provide any detailed information about the reason of Garner's stroke or his condition.
While giving interview to a famous news agency Allen has put forth his comments. "He's still in the hospital but my understanding is he is doing well and will be going home soon. When, exactly, we have not been told yet," adds Allen.
James Garner rose to prominence in 1950s as the star of "Maverick," playing a cynical river boat gambler who was believed to be even quicker with a jibe than a gun. His role was different from his Western counterparts, who were quick enough to run away from trouble than to deal with it face to face. The show was aired from 1957 to 1962 but Garner, who was nominated for an Emmy as Bret Maverick, left it in the year 1960 for pursuing a film career.
He has appeared in films like “The Children's Hour," "Victor/Victoria," "The Great Escape”. Also he was nominated for Oscar Award in the year 1985 for his role as the small-town pharmacist. He has been starred opposite to Sally Field in the film "Murphy's Romance."
James Garner returned to television on full-time basis in the middle of 1970s. He has portrayed the role of Jim Rockford, a modern-day private detective who, like his "Maverick" character, also was not afraid to run and instead fought bravely. He won an Emmy for this role in the year 1977.
Garner also acted in his favorite Maverick role in the short-lived "Bret Maverick" series during 1980s.
Very recently, James Garner played the character of the father of Katey Sagal in the sitcom "8 Simple Rules ... For Dating My Teenage Daughter." Garner joined the cast in the year 2003 after John Ritter, who played Sagal's husband, passed away suddenly during the second season of the show.
