Remy Ma: Judge sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment
Grammy nominated rapper Remy Ma has been sentenced to eight years of imprisonment on Tuesday for shooting her friend outside a Manhattan nightclub.
"I feel so bad for all the physical and mental pain you've gone through. This has taken a toll on us and both our families. I would never wish you harm and I pray the best for all of us", said the rapper to the victim.
In July 2007, Remy Ma's lawyer, Ivan Fisher told the shooting was accidental. He also suggested that the victim, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, was exaggerating the facts to win a large sum in a separate civil suit.
Remy Ma still believed that her friend has taken $3,000 from her and that her gun went off as the pair struggled over Ma's purse. The bullet pierced Barnes-Joseph's colon, hit her rectum and sent her to a hospital for three weeks.
While sentencing, the criminal court judge Rena Uviller said that Remy Ma, whose real name is Remy Smith, was extremely angry and she was completely out of control at the time of incident.
After the sentencing, Remy Ma's fiance and fellow rapper namely Papoose, began screaming in a hallway outside the courtroom. "All you want is money!" he said, apparently referring to the victim. Then he shouted "Lock me up! Lock me up!" at court officers, who escorted him out of the courthouse.
The couple has planned to wed last weekend at the Rikers Island jail, where Ma was incarcerated.
Ivan Fisher said that they still have plan to wed.
